Formal Letters
Formal letters are used to contact businesses. Examples of formal letters are
Layout
The formal letter begins with the sender's address in the top right hand corner.
The next step is to write the receiver's address on the left hand side.
The greeting comes next.
If you know the person's name, use it. eg. Dear Mr. Collins, (do not use his/her first name)
If you do not know the name, a simple Dear Sir/Madam, will do.
After this, make the reason for your letter clear.
Start with a sentence like
I am writing to you to complain about a meal I had recently, in your restaurant
or
I am writing to you to ask for sponsorship for...
Make sure to keep the letter organised - use paragraphs.
For example, a letter of complaint should explain what happened and when it happened, what compensation you expect and how you may be contacted. Each of these should have its own separate paragraph.
Signing off.

Yours faithfully,
